The Omega Institute

The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY is a beautiful holistic learning center.  I had the honor of working here as an Artist in Residence during the summer of 2011.  The facilities are amazing!  There are studios for dance, yoga, meditation and more.  There is an on site health center where you can receive acupuncture or massage, as well as a large sauna.  The location is near the Catskill Mountains in the Hudson River Valley.  A picturesque part of New York, about 2 hours drive north of the city.  Be careful as this is supposed to be a hotspot for Lyme’s disease in ticks.  Save any tick that is inside you for over 24 hours, as a blood sample will be needed to test for pathogens that could have infected you.  There is a beautiful small pond at the Omega Institute where you can swim, kayak and canoe.  The food here is mostly all local and organic, featuring vegetables and meats from local farms in the surrounding area.  Appleseed Permaculture is also nearby.

Here is an excerpt from their page:

“Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OCSL). The OCSL is an environmental education center and natural water reclamation facility built to meet the highest standards currently available in sustainable architecture. It is the first green building in America to achieve both LEED® Platinum and Living Building Challenge™ certification.

The OCSL offers educational opportunities for students, teachers, activists, contractors, architects, elected officials, and many others. At the OCSL, you can observe the Eco Machine™ treating wastewater without chemicals and get a close-up look at the solar and geothermal systems that provide energy, heating, and cooling for the building.”
