The design includes:  hugelkultur garden beds, trimming back bushes to allow more sun into the patio, rock blanket for drainage leading to basin planter bed, setting flagstone, setting posts and building a gate, and planting an herb/vegetable garden.

Hugelkultur planter beds are a technique in which used plant material (i.e. branches, twigs, leaves etc.) are buried in a large hole.  These beds are known to require much less irrigation than a regular planter bed.  The soil is also better able to breathe, causing for an increased amount of carbon sequestration.
